Inspection, static and dynamic tests of the Crimea Bridge’s highway section have been completed as part of the commissioning process. According to the Crimean Bridge information center, it is the final phase of the quality control of construction/assembly works before the final acceptance commission. The tests have confirmed that the loadbearing structures of the bridge are reliable and are ready to be put into permanent operation.
“The result of the performed diagnostic testing will be the assessed status of the bridge structures and the highway. Together with the statement of compliance obtained from the state supervision board it will be considered by the acceptance commission that will include representatives of the customer, contractor, construction supervision service and designer supervision group”, explained Yury Safonov, Chief Engineer of FSI Uprdor “Taman”, adding that the bridge can be put into operation upon obtaining of the acceptance commission’s certificate.
The inspections and the tests were performed by a dedicated research institute for several weeks. The main task was to check the compliance with the safety standards and technical parameters specified by the designer.
Numerous sensors fixed at the spans of the bridge were providing online information about structural response to load while eight dump trucks with full weight of 35 tonnes each were moving along the spans according to different scenarios modeling different types and directions of the load.
The statement says that the tests have confirmed the load bearing capacity and structural reliability of the bridge.
When the Crimea Bridge traffic is launched its structures will be under real-time monitoring ensured by the system developed for automated control of crucial parameters at the structural elements subject to maximum load and the most significant change of the state while in operation (supports structures, superstructures and the arch).
