The Port of Long Beach will accept applications Sept. 1-30 for its Community Sponsorship Program, offering nonprofit organizations the opportunity to apply for funds for community events and activities that help inform residents about the Port while making Long Beach a better place to live and work, the company said in its press release.
Last April, in the second call of the 2018 fiscal year, Harbor Commissioners awarded 124 sponsorships totaling $353,850 to community organizations. The groups receiving funding represented a wide cross-section of areas and supported causes such as the arts, environment, social justice and historic preservation. Community groups can submit their sponsorship funding requests online from Saturday, Sept. 1 through 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018.
Applicants are advised to plan ahead for their events — after the application period closes, it will take about 45 days before recommendations will be sent to the Board of Harbor Commissioners for a decision. It is expected that funding will be awarded in mid-November.
Applications are judged on how they can help the Port inform the community of its critical role as an economic engine and jobs creator.
