Port of HaminaKotka throughput in 9M’2018 up 13.7% Y-o-Y to 12.14 million tonnes
In January-September 2018, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 12.14 million tonnes of cargo (+13.7%, year-on-year). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 7.6% to 8.44 million tonnes including 2.07 million tonnes of paper (+2.2%), 1.02 million tonnes of cellulose (-14.4%), 1.5 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-0.8%) and 1.32 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+24.6%).
Transshipment of import cargo grew by 30.4% to 3.7 million tonnes including 950,640 tonnes of general cargo (+10.7%), 698,530 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+21%) and 731,320 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-9.1%).
Transshipment of transit cargo grew by 19.8% to 3.09 million tonnes, domestic traffic grew by 14.7% to 661,660 tonnes.
Transshipment of containers fell by 5% to 493,540 TEUs.
The number of calls grew by 10.4% to 2,083.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2017, the port handled 14.66 mln t of cargo.
