Port of New Orleans receives Excellence Award for Master Plan

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) received the Plan Excellence Award from the American Planning Association (APA) Louisiana Chapter Oct. 4, 2018, for Port NOLA’s Strategic Master Plan, Port NOLA Forward, a bold vision to deliver significant, sustained economic benefit throughout the Port’s three-parish jurisdiction – Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes, the company said in its press release.

The Strategic Master Plan challenges Port NOLA to think more cohesively about growing the vital maritime and hospitality industries, and to consider the supply chain as a whole by harnessing all available multimodal assets – on and off Port property, along the Mississippi River and inland waterway system, on the New Orleans Public Belt and six Class I rail network, and via access to interstate highways.

Port NOLA Forward: A Strategic Master Plan to Exceed the Needs of Tomorrow presents a menu of strategies to optimize current assets and extend the Port’s reach across all business lines. The crux of the plan – and a necessary ingredient for its success – is collaborative partnership with a wide range of stakeholders, broadly defined.

Port of New Orleans is a modern multimodal gateway for global commerce and an in-demand cruise port —delivering seamless, integrated logistics solutions between river, rail and road.Port NOLA is a diverse deepwater port uniquely located on the Mississippi River near the Gulf of Mexico -- with access to 30-plus major inland hubs such as Memphis, Chicago and Canada via 14,500 miles of waterways, 6 Class I railroads and interstate roadways. The 2018 acquisition of New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, a Class III connecting railroad, strengthens Port NOLA’s position as an integrated hub and supports the Port’s mission of driving regional economic prosperity.
