1.348 million cbm to be dredged in Azov-Don River Basin this year

The scope of dredging in the Azov-Don River Basin to reach 1.348 million cbm in 2018, regional correspondent IAA PortNews ites Yevgeny Ovchinnikov, deputy head of Azov-Don Basin Administration, as saying at the conference “Modern methods of RF IWW operation” in Rostov-on-Don.

According to him, dredging works performed every year to maintain guaranteed depth and to ensure safe shipping in the basin.

He added that further development of shipping in the Azov-Don Basin will be driven by debottlenecking and maximum use of commercial fleet capacity.

In his opinion, the key solution to depth problems on the Lower Don is the construction of the Bagayevsky hydrosystem.  According to him, “it will insure conditions necessary for the development of water infrastructure in the Azov-Don Basin and in the entire Southern region of Russia serving as a an additional impetus to the development of domestic shipbuilding”.
