In January-November 2018, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 33,145,300 tonnes of cargo (+6.5%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, transshipment of coal grew by 17.4% to 12,946,600 tonnes, oil products – down 27.8% to 3,774,700 tonnes, wood pellets – up 43.4% to 828,700 tonnes, ore – up 6.4% to 497,300 tonnes.
The Port’s container throughput grew by 4.3% to 427,315 TEUs.
In the reporting period, passenger turnover increased by 5.3% to 809,865 people including 74,785 cruise passengers (-13%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2017, the port handled 33,674,700 tonnes of cargo.
