In 2018, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 16.17 million tonnes of cargo (+10.3%, year-on-year). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 3.4% to 10.37 million tonnes with dry bulk cargo showing a growth of 35.8%, liquid bulk cargo having decreased by 7.5%, timber – by 15.1%, cellulose – by 9.4%.
Transshipment of import cargo grew by 29.6% with wood transshipment having surged almost 3 times, general cargo having showing an increase of 7.7% and liquid bulk cargo having decreased by 21.8%.
In the reporting period, transit traffic grew by 7.7%, coastal traffic fell by 21.8%.
Transshipment of containers fell by 5.3%.
Vessel traffic grew by 10.1% to 2,835.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2017, the port handled 14.66 mln t of cargo.
