The military arts division of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping will undergo reconstruction in the nearest future. As Sergey Baryshnikov, Rector of the University, told IAA PortNews, a military training center will be established at its premises. It will offer three programmes: training of officers, seafarers and reserve seniors. Regular officers training is planned.
The military arts division was not functioning at the University between 2008 and 2017.
Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was set up through reorganization of two large industry-focused higher educational institutions - St.-Petersburg State University of Waterway Communications (SPSUWC) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy (SMA) in the form of affiliation of the Academy to the University. The educational process complies with state educational standards and International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers.
As of today, the University is a vertically integrated industry focused scientific and educational complex. Teaching of students and cadets is realized on technical, natural-scientific and humanitarian profiles directly or indirectly connected with globalized shipping industry, shipbuilding and transport logistics.
