Port of HaminaKotka throughput in Jan’2019 grew by 20.7% Y-o-Y to 1.57 million tonnes
In January 2019, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 1.57 million tonnes of cargo (+20.7% %, year-on-year). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 34.2% to 1.2 million tonnes including 241,270 tonnes of paper (-4.4%), 131,140 tonnes of cellulose (+11.4%), 141,540 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-13%) and 179,850 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+32.2%).
Transshipment of import cargo fell by 8.7% to 372,780 tonnes including 87,320 tonnes of unitized goods (-1%), 55,310 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-47.2%) and 82,190 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-23.5%).
In the reporting period, transit traffic grew by 4.7% to 350,450 tonnes, coastal traffic surged by 313% to 100,840 tonnes.
Transshipment of containers fell by 8.2% to 53,440 TEUs.
Vessel traffic grew by 4.3% to 242 units.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2018, the port handled 16.17 mln t of cargo.
