New RTG gantry structure by ZPMC

ZPMC reports that it has developed the hub motor driving unit for RTG gantry, a new embedded one with the complete independent intellectual property right leading in the world, solving the problem of complicated maintenance due to too many different parts for half a century with the technology quite different from traditional technology in the same industry.

More than 10 000 of RTGs are used in the global ports as main operation equipment for container terminals. In the past half century, the traditional mode of wheel and chain has been using in the driving unit of RTG gantry, causing problems of low transmission efficiency, too much impact and vibration in operation and difficulty in accurate positioning due to loose structure, as well as high requirements for maintenance and oil leakage. To solve the problems, the expert team by ZPMC made careful study and detailed design for nearly two years before developing the embedded hub motor driving unit.

“It seems that we are dancing on the edge of a knife.”, said Jiang Hao, a development member of the project. The development team made a breakthrough to embed the 30KW driving unit of the motor, reducer and brake into a cavity of 5cm in the diameter. The full natural cooling mode is used to replace the common hydraulic cooling mode, making sure no maintenance for the RTG gantry driving unit. The unit consists of the new permanent magnet motor and Planetary reducer, replacing various components of wheel, chain, coupling, bearing and cover of traditional RTG gantry. It features simple structure, high efficiency, environment protection and operation without maintenance, changing the previous cumbrous structure completely.
