BC Ferries reveals 25-year vision for Swartz Bay Terminal
BC Ferries released the Swartz Bay Terminal Development Plan (TDP). The TDP outlines a long-term vision for the terminal’s future, and a phased approachfor implementing the changes envisioned in the plan. BC Ferries employees will be at the terminal from April 10 to 13 to share the TDP with travellers and provide information to customers on how the company incorporated their feedback.
Some examples includethe development of proposed cycling routes for cyclists entering and leaving the terminal, thoughts on a waterfront park and improved circulation for the pick-up/drop-off areas.
The TDPis a 25-year vision for the future of the terminal. Implementation will occur in phases, with the first phase starting in the early 2020s. This phase will focus on improving road access, parking and pick-up/drop-off areas. This area is a priority to ensure BC Ferries continues to meet the operational demands of this busy terminaland is important to allow for future phases to be implemented. BC Ferries will be engaging with customers on the detailed designs for each phase, and will involve the community in identifying potential construction impacts and how theycan be reducedor eliminated.
BC Ferries has allocated funds in its 12-year Capital Plan (fiscal 2019 through2030) to support the priority improvements.
