In accordance with the combat training plan, the small-size missile ship Orekhovo-Zuyevo of the Black Sea Fleet has left Sevastopol and headed for the Black Sea straits, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
This is the first time as the ship, commissioned by the Russian Navy in December 2018, leaves for the distant sea zone to perform the assigned tasks.
After passing the Black Sea straits, the ship will operate as part of the permanent grouping of the Russian Navy in the long-range operational zone.
Upon arrival in the Mediterranean Sea, the ship Orekhovo-Zuyevo will serve with the crew of the frigate Admiral Essen, which has been performing tasks in the long-range operational zone since early March this year.
The small-size missile ship Orekhovo-Zuyevo is a multi-purpose ship equipped with modern artillery, missile, counter-sabotage, anti-aircraft and electronic warfare weapons.
It is the seventh ship built for the Black Sea Fleet within the Buyan-M upgraded series. The ships of this project have an increased displacement and are equipped with the newest high-precision long-range missile weapons - the Kaliber-NK universal missile system, designed to destroy maritime and coastal targets. The Project Buyan-M is designed to protect and defend the economic zone of the state.
