Daltransugol terminal reaches 150-millionth-tonne milestone since the facility commissioning

Vanino, Khabarovsk Krai based Daltransugol JSC, a subsidiary of Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK), has handled 150 million tonnes of export coal since the launch of the coal terminal, SUEK press release said.

The milestone 150-millionth tonne was loaded onto the 77,684dwt bulk carrier Glory Trader. The coal shipment will be delivered to Hong Kong.

The Vanino bulk cargo terminal annual capacity is 24 million tonnes of coal. In the next four years, the terminal operator plans to double coal throughput through investment of RUB 20 billion in the facility expansion. The project includes the construction of a second pier, which will enable Daltransugol to simultaneously accommodate four ships for loading, building of a triple rail car dumper, of an additional coal outdoor storage, the introduction of new modern coal loaders.

Once the expansion project completed Daltransugol will be able to transship 40 million tonnes of coal by 2023.

In addition, the terminal operator plans environment protection measures, including installation of the state-of-the-art coal dust suppression system, namely, seven fog cannons for suppressing airborne particles, each capable of spraying up to 500 liters of water per minute, the construction of a 25m high windbreak fence.

The bulk terminal of Daltransugol is a year-round operating port, located in the deep Muchke Bay, providing connection to two independent railways — the Trans-Siberian (Transsib) and Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and is the eastern terminus of BAM. The bulk terminal was built for transshipment of export coal produced by SUEK. The facility with projected capacity of 12 million tonnes of coal was commissioned and began operations in 2008. Since then the Daltransugol terminal sometimes could reach a 30-million tonne annual throughput. The facility is able to accommodate and handle bulk carriers of 170 000 dwt. The terminal operator has is own fleet of tugs.
