In January-April 2019, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 5.98 million tonnes of cargo (+12% %, year-on-year). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 24.1% to 4.58 million tonnes including 902,320 tonnes of paper (-6.1%), 618,400 tonnes of cellulose (+32.7%), 743,960 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-3.9%) and 775,330 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+40.1%).
Transshipment of import cargo grew by 12% to 1.39 million tonnes including 352,760 tonnes of general cargo (-18.4%), 170,070 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-44.3%) and 318,060 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-8.6%).
In the reporting period, transit traffic climbed by 6.3% to 1.56 million tonnes, coastal traffic surged 3.5 times to 380,980 tonnes.
Transshipment of containers declined by 4.3% to 237,610 TEUs.
Vessel traffic grew by 9.6% to 985 units.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2018, the port handled 16.17 mln t of cargo.
