AS Tallink Grupp has today published its passenger and cargo transport statistics for May 2019, according to which the group has transported its all-time-high number of passengers for this month. The group transported a total of 853,309 passengers in May 2019, which is 0.1% more than in May 2018.
The group also carried its highest ever number of passengers for the month of May on the Latvia-Sweden route, transporting 76,101 passengers, which is 7.6% more than in the same period last year and the highest number of passengers for the month of May in the last 13 years on the Finland-Sweden routes, transporting a total of 230,510 passengers, which is 2.2% more than was transported in May 2018. The number of cargo units transported on the Latvia-Sweden route and the Finland-Sweden routes also increased in May 2019, with 1,471 cargo units transported on the Latvia-Sweden route, which is a 7.8% increase on May 2018 and 7,116 cargo units transported on the Finland-Sweden routes, which is a 4% increase on May 2018.
The passenger numbers and number of cargo units transported on the Estonia-Finland and Estonia-Sweden routes decreased in May 2019 compared to the same period last year and the number of passenger vehicles transported decreased on all the group’s routes in May 2019 compared to the same period last year.
„Passenger transport records, however big they are, can all be considered a good result in today’s market conditions and competitive environment and give us a good start to this year’s high season. I am particularly pleased to see a strong growth in passenger numbers on the Latvia-Sweden route, where it is clear that passengers are getting used to and appreciate having daily departures again, after a period of having only one vessel operating on the route a while back with departures only every other day. The development of this route has also been boosted by the company’s investment into the Riga-Stockholm route vessels over the last few years, which has enhanced the comfort of the vessels and enables us to offer even better experiences to our passengers,“ Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink Grupp, said.
„We will focus our efforts over the coming months on the routes where the passenger numbers and number of cargo units transported have declined and we hope that, similarly to last year, our high season will be warm and will encourage people to travel,“ Nõgene added.
