Damen set to develop activities in Russia in designing and creating hi-tech research ships
Damen Shipyards Group is set to develop its activities in Russia in the sphere of designing and creating of hi-tech research ships, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Damen Shipyards Group CEO René Berkvens as saying at Saint-Petersburg Economic Forum 2019. According to him, the group is currently building a research vessel Austraalian Government particularly focusing on noise and vibration suppression technologies.
“We are positive about the RF Government’s efforts on creation of scientific research fleet and we are ready to cooperate with Russian shipyards and scientific research institutes in designing and creating such ships”, said René Berkvens.
When speaking at the 2nd Hydraulic Engineering Structures and Dredging Congress organized by IAA PortNews, Sales Director of Damen, Russia, Vadim Akimov told about the company’s plans on localization of shipbuilding projects in Russia in compliance with recommendations of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Gorinchem, Netherlands headquartered Damen Shipyards Group (established in 1927) has 34 owned shipyards worldwide. Damen employs some 10,000 people including 3,500 — in the Netherlands, including 1,000 engineers. In total, Damen Shipyards Group has built 6,000 vessels and delivers about 160 vessels annually to customers in 100 countries worldwide. Damen specializes in building tugs, workboats, patrol vessels, high speed craft, cargo vessels, dredgers, offshore support vessels, oil-spill response vessels, frigates and mega yachts. In 2017 turnover of the Group reached EUR 2.0 billion.
