In January-May 2019, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 7.72 million tonnes of cargo (+12% %, year-on-year). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 21.4% to 5.96 million tonnes including 1.19 million tonnes of paper (-0.4%), 771,900 tonnes of cellulose (+34.1%), 958,520 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+3.2%) and 990,070 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+27.1%).
Transshipment of import cargo fell by 16.9% to 2.12 million tonnes including 441,590 tonnes of general cargo (-22.8%), 210,010 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-50.5%) and 419,920 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-0.5%).
In the reporting period, transit traffic climbed by 6.4% to 2.03 million tonnes, coastal traffic surged by 22.8% to 415,330 tonnes.
Transshipment of containers grew by 5.4% to 299,350 TEUs.
Vessel traffic grew by 14.8% to 1,329 units.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2018, the port handled 16.17 mln t of cargo.
