Lavna coal terminal to reach design capacity of 18 million tonnes in 2022

Environmentally friendly coal terminal “Lavna” on the western shore of the Kola Bay will reach design capacity of 18 million tonnes per year in 2022, says press center of the Murmansk Region Government.

Maksim Akimov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, and Andrey Chibis, Murmansk Region Governor inspected implementation of the project on comprehensive development of Murmansk Transport Hub. The project foresees the construction of ‘Vykhodnoi station - Tuloma bridge - Murmashy 2  station - Lavna station’ line. According to the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Governor, the works are being performed according to the schedule.

The terminal conn has entered its active phase. That will be a modern port designed with application of the advanced solutions and the toughest environmental standards. Maksim Akimov marked the considerable progress at the construction site. “Murmansk will have the country’s most advanced non-freezing port”, he emphasized.

Total investments into Murmansk Transport Hub project are to exceed RUB 130 billion. Investments into the Lavna terminal are estimated at RUB 34 billion.

“It is important for us that the Lavna project will generate 1,000 permanent jobs and about RUB 4 billion of taxes per year. The construction process already involves more than 2,000 people, the taxes are being paid by contractors in the Murmansk Region. The transport hub project means an enormous logistics flow and a flow of investments that we can get”, said Andrey Chibis adding that negotiations on attraction of new investors are underway. Among them are negotiations on construction of a terminal for transshipment of mineral fertilizers, on creation of an oil terminal and a container terminal.
