Krasnoye Sormovo set to reach production capacity of 12 ships per year by 2020
Production capacity of Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard in 2018 was as high as 8 ships per year, in 2019 it is to reach 10 unit with the year of 2020 to see construction of 12 vessels, Krasnoye Sormovo press center cites Mikhail Pershin, General Director of the company, as saying at the Productivity 360 forum held on 2-3 July 2019 in Nizhny Novgorod.
“That is to be achieved through application of lean production technologies and new approaches to work”, Mikhail Pershin told to Governors of 14 Russian regions who visited Krasnoye Sormovo.
The head of the shipyard also added that one year of participation in the optimization project let the company considerably reduce the ship construction cycle from 9 to 8 months that is reflected in the number of ships built per year.
As of today, software tools are being applied for construction of RSD59 design dry cargo carriers at several phases of production – from metal supply to ship launching. Optimization projects are in application in hull construction and assembling workshops as well as on the slipway.
Krasnoye Sormovo PJSC is one of the oldest shipbuilding companies in Russia, founded in 1849. Throughout the 75-year period, more than three hundred submarines and rescue vehicles including 25 nuclear ones have been built and modernized by Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard. Today, Krasnoye Sormovo builds vessels of commercial fleet meeting the requirements of international conventions on reliability and safety. Some of Krasnoye Sormovo tankers are in the list of Significant Ships of the Year by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA).
