In January-June 2019, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 9.09 million tonnes of cargo (+9.3%, year-on-year). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 20.9% to 7.03 million tonnes including 1.4 million tonnes of paper (-0.6%), 923,530 tonnes of cellulose (+37.1%), 1.15 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+7.7%) and 1.18 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+24.3%).
Transshipment of import cargo fell by 17.7% to 2.06 million tonnes including 507,760 tonnes of general cargo (-24.7%), 240,900 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-49.9%) and 514,980 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+3.4%).
In the reporting period, transit traffic climbed by 5% to 2.32 million tonnes, coastal traffic increased by 0.9% to 443,400 tonnes.
Transshipment of containers grew by 3.8% to 353,730 TEUs.
Vessel traffic grew by 15.6% to 1,608 units.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2018, the port handled 16.17 mln t of cargo.
