RF Transport Ministry considers e-visas effective for development of Kaliningrad Region’s transport potential

RF Transport Ministry says the practice of e-visa application is effective for the development of the Kaliningrad Region’s transport potential.

Electronic visa application system was launched in the Kaliningrad Region on 1 July 2019. E-visa application is only available for citizens of the neighboring countries the list of which is approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. E-visa is valid for 30 calendar days with a permitted period of stay of up to eight days. New visa can be obtained only upon expiry of the previous one. The digital document is of single use — one entry and one exit to/from the region. The e-visa allows a tourist to stay exclusively within the Kaliningrad Region.

Electronic visas for visiting the Kaliningrad Region are valid only for entry/exit via the following state border checkpoints: air checkpoint Kaliningrad (Khrabrovo); sea checkpoint Kaliningrad (cities of Kaliningrad, Baltijsk and Svetly); road checkpoints Bagrationovsk, Gusev, Mamonovo (Gzhekhotki), Mamonovo (Fronovo), Morskoye, Pogranichny, Sovetsk and Chernyshevskoye; railway checkpoints Mamonovo and Sovetsk.

According to earlier statements of the Kaliningrad Region Government, about 1,500 foreigners used the opportunity of a simplified entry to the Kaliningrad Region for two weeks from the system launching. That was announced by the Region Governor Anton Alikhanov who also reminded that citizens of all EU countries excluding the Great Britain can visit the Kaliningrad Region with e-visas.

“Over a fortnight of Kaliningrad e-visa system operation, the number of applications exceeded 8,000 with about 1,500 foreigners from 26 countries having entered the region”, said Anton Alikhanov.
