On 2 August 2019, Nizhny Novgorod based Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard (a company of United Shipbuilding Corporation) launched the Pola Kharita, the first ship in the new series numbering 11 dry cargo carriers of Project RSD59 ordered by State Transport Leasing Company (STLC), says press center of the shipyard.
“The Pola Kharita is the tenth ship built by our shipyard, – says Aleksey Bulavin, Deputy General Director for Development of Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard. – Today, we open a new large series of dry cargo carriers and we are pleased to be appreciated by the customer for our company’s unchallenged reputation. I will remind that Krasnoye Sormovo has not delayed a single delivery over the recent 30 years”.
Following the launching, the new ship will leave for sea and mooring trials that will be held in the water area of the Gorkovskoye storage reservoir. Upon completion of them, it will be delivered to the customer.
According to a tradition, a bottle of champagne was smashed over the hull when the ship touched the water. Maria Ryzhikova, head of the Finance Department of Pola Invest LLC, acted as a godmother during the ceremony.
As of today, RSD59 is among the most popular designs for dry cargo carries. The ship has confirmed its reliability, universality and high class in the segment of sea and river going vessels. The lead ship of RSD59 series is on the list of Significant Ships of 2018 by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA).
The Pola Kharita has been built under the contract on construction and delivery of 11 ships of Project RSD59 signed by Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard and State Transport Leasing Company in March 2019. Earlier, the shipyard built two series of such ships.
RSD59 ships of Volgo-Don Max class have the maximum dimensions to sail along the Volga-Don canal.
The vessel is designed for transportation of general, containerized cargo, timber, grain, oversize cargo and dangerous goods of B Class in R2 navigation area with waves up to 3% and standing off a place of shelter within 100 miles (distance between shelters should not exceed 200 miles), inland waterways of Russia (with some restrictions).

Project RSD59 designer is Marine Engineering Bureau – Design SPb. Working design document was developed by Volga-Caspian Design Bureau.
Krasnoye Sormovo PJSC is one of the oldest shipbuilding companies in Russia, founded in 1849. Throughout the 75-year period, more than three hundred submarines and rescue vehicles including 25 nuclear ones have been built and modernized by Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard. United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership.
