Over 300,000 tonnes of Russia’s export coal shipped from Vostochny Port’s Phase 3 over first month of operation

More than 300,000 tonnes of Russia’s export coal has been shipped from Phase 3 of Vostochny Port’s coal terminal over the first month after it official launching. As the company told IAA PortNews, the first bulk cargo carrier loaded during the Eastern Economic Forum in the presence of President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived in the port of India on 30 September 2019 having delivered more than 75,000 tonnes of coal. Then the terminal’s Phase 3 shipped two batches to Singapore. The loading of the next ship is nearing completion (planned volume – 83,000 tonnes).

Vostochny Port JSC launched Phase 3 of its specialized coal terminal on 5 September 2019. The first batch of cargo loaded at the new facility, high quality coal of UK Kuzbassrazrezugol, was intended for JSW Steel Ltd, the leader of India’s steel industry.

Phase 3 of Vostochny Port’s coal terminal is the most ambitious private investment project costing over RUB 40 billion and implemented through public private partnership without involving state financing. Phase 3 lets the terminal double its annual throughput from 25 million tonnes to 50-55 million tonnes. The Phase 3 project has generated more than 600 new high skill jobs. By 2016, the project will ensure a total of RUB 25 billion of tax payments that will give a powerful impetus to the social and economic development of the Primorsky Territory.

Vostochny Port JSC (Vrangel settlement, Primorsky Region) is Russia’s largest specialized terminal with high-tech coal transshipment. Vostochny Port is a free access facility open for all coal manufacturers of Russia. In 2018, it handled 24.3 million tonnes of cargo.
