In January-September 2019, the port of Ventspils handled 16.603 million tonnes of cargo (+10%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 1% to 7.897 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo – grew by 35% to 6.824 million tonnes while transshipment of general cargo grew by 7% to 1.882 million tonnes.
The port’s container throughput totaled 216 TEUs having plunged by 90%, year-on-year. Turnover of passengers grew by 6% to 183,451. The number of calls was totaled 1,173 units (+2%).
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2018, the port handled 20.3 million tonnes of cargo.
