Rosmorrechflot's Marine Rescue Service to build 16 ice class ships and purchase helicopters for Arctic operations

State Marine Rescue Service of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot) is set to build 16 ice class ships for Artic operation in 2020-2024, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Andrey Khaustov, Acting Head of the Service, as telling journalists.

According to him, the newbuilds will include two 18 MW icebreakers of Icebreaker7 class (for the ports of Pevek and Dickson), three icebreaking ships of Icebreaker6 class, two Icebreaker5 ships and nine icebreaking tugboats of Icebreaker4 class. The competition for construction of tugboats is to be announced in March 2020.

Besides, two helicopters are to be acquired under leasing agreement, each costing RUB 400 million. The leasing company has not been determined yet.
