Russian Railways OJSC plans to increase container transit by its networks to 600,000 units in 2019, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Oleg Belozerov, Russian Railways CEO and Chairman of the Board, as saying at the plenary session “Future of the Area 1520. Compete of cooperate? Where do national transport interests converge?” held at the “PRO//Motion.1520” International Transport and Logistics Forum.
“In 2018, we transported 553,000 transit containers and we plan to transport more than 600,000 containers in 2019. A task has been set for us by the President to ensure transportation of 1.7 million transit containers by 2025. I am sure this result will be achieved. I think it can be even higher since there are all the prerequisites for that”, emphasized Oleg Belozerov.
As an example the head of Russian Railways told about a service developed together with the FESCO and Maersk colleagues. The service provides for freight delivery from Korea and Japan (electronics and components) by sea to Russia’s Vostochny port, then by railway to Saint-Petersburg and then by sea again to Gdansk. “That is a very good and demanded service and I believe such services will be permanently expanded and improved”, said Oleg Belozerov.
