Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Murmansk to host PORA discussion “Development of Water Transport Infrastructure in the Arctic” on Nov'26

The Discussion Club of the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic (PORA) will hold its meeting dedicated to development of water transport infrastructure in the Arctic on November 26. It will be held in video conference format involving Moscow (Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic), Saint-Petersburg (IAC PORA office) and Murmansk (Sustainable Development Laboratory of PORA). The Club meeting is intended to discuss and outline the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation till 2035.

The event is organized by Information & Analytical Center PORA (Project Office for the Development of the Arctic) together with IAA PortNews supported by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

The potential of water transport operating in the Far North is not fully utilized for investment projects in the Arctic due to imperfect regulations and poor state support of small transport operators. Meanwhile, proper development of water transportation in the Arctic with a focus on mid-sized businesses could contribute to business recovery in the Far North and generation of new jobs.

The experts’ proposals expressed during the event will be forwarded to the developers of the Strategy for the Development of Russia’s Arctic Zone till 2035 not later than 5 December 2019.
