Sakhalin exports more oil

According to the data of Customs statistics, the external trade cargo turnover of the Sakhalin Area was 316 thousand tons in the first quarter of 2007, vladivostoktimes.com reports. The Area’s external trade turnover totaled 329 million USD in the first quarter of 2007 (13% decline to the first quarter of 2006).

As the Far Eastern Customs Administration reported, the decline is mainly accounted for by the decline of imports by over a third. Cargo worth 185 million USD was imported in the first three months of 2007. Exports grew 56% and reached 143 million USD.

The biggest cargo turnover was in trade with Japan, South Korea, the USA, the UK, Italy, and Singapore.

The biggest exports by value were oil (61%), timber (4%), seafood (3%), ferrous scrap metal (over 2%). Exports of oil grew 40%, exports of timber increased 60%.

Most imports were foods, chemicals, garments, shoes, machinery, equipment, cars, metals, and hardware.

The external trade cargo turnover of Sakhalin was 316 thousand tons. 80% of all goods were transported by oil extraction projects' participants.
