SIPG, GPA and Savi launch real-time RFID pilot between Shanghai and Savannah

Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG), the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) and Savi Networks plan to launch the Shanghai-Savannah Express Trade Lane Project, an RFID-based network that automatically tracks the location and security of containerised cargo transported between the Port of Shanghai in China and the Port of Savannah in Georgia.
SIPG and Savi Networks have jointly developed a localised China RFID solution which includes electronic seal and GPS integrated handheld for this project. This solution builds on a project previously conducted by SIPG from Shanghai to Yantai, and will facilitate SIPG’s objective of being a global information and logistics hub.
The solution will be built on an open, international standards-based network platform, including compatibility with ISO standard 18000-7 for active RFID devices and ISO standard 18185 for electronic container security devices, both operating at 433.92 MHz.
On successful completion of the project, SIPG and Savi Networks will extend its RFID-based solution and SaviTrak™ information service to terminal facilities operated by SIPG at the Port of Shanghai, one of the world’s largest and busiest ports (handling almost 22 million TEU last year) and key gateway for China-manufactured products shipped to the US.
SaviTrak™ already exists at the Port of Savannah under a previously announced agreement between the Georgia Ports Authority and Savi Networks.
