Ivanov urges establishment of large shipbuilding holdings

The establishment of large shipbuilding holdings is important for Russia, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov has said according to Interfax. "This, above all, relates to the United Shipbuilding Corporation, which was set up following the presidential decree of February 22. This holding will enable us to fully preserve and expand the research and production potential of the domestic shipbuilding sector," Ivanov said at a scientific and practical conference dealing with Russia's marine activities on Wednesday. The holding "will make it possible to concentrate the essential intellectual, production, and financial resources to build various vessels for the naval and commercial fleets," Ivanov said.

Russia will focus on building specialized high-technology ships, such as chemical carriers, gas carriers, and other types of special vessels, he said.
