The head of the state committee for fisheries, Andrei Krainy, considers it necessary to introduce a ten-year fishing quota, Itar-Tass reports.
“We will introduce such quotas only for honest companies. We will create conditions for your work and you have to fish in compliance with the effective law and not poach or sell your quotas,” he told at a meeting with representatives of fishing companies in the Primorsky territory on Wednesday.
“In case a fishing company is suspected of poaching, its quotas and vessels will be confiscated. Only a tough approach can help resolve the problem of poaching,” he said.
Krainy also called for reducing sea and rail transportations for Russia’s fish producers, who transport their produce from the Far Eastern federal district to elsewhere in the country.
“I believe that a decree reducing tariffs for railway transportation by 50 percent should enter into force on January 1, 2008,” he said.
