A consortium led by German construction group Bunte has won a disputed $678 million tender for construction work on the Jade-Weser-Port container terminal project in Wilhelmshaven.
The decision to award Bunte the contract follows a court ruling earlier this month which had banned the original winner Hochtief due to a 'deficient offer'.
This latest move to award Bunte the contract has come only after another competing construction firm decided not to appeal the award of the contract to Bunte, said reports today.
Work on the terminal proper, however, will only commence when other court proceedings brought about by other opponents to the project's current progress have been resolved.
Reports say that the state parliament of Lower Saxony is mulling the setting up of a committee of inquiry to investigate possible political influence and responsibilities for inconsistencies with the Wilhelmshaven project.
Operator of the new container handling facilities, Eurogate, has announced that it no longer expects to begin operations in 2010 as originally scheduled.
