In January-October 2007, the port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) handled 22.8 million tonnes of cargo (+17.4%, year-on-year), Interfax reports according to Gudok.RU. The increase should be attributed mostly to higher transshipment of loose fertilizers (+46.3%), timber (+45.5%), containers (+43%). Transshipment of oil products via the port of Klaipeda (terminals of Klaipedos nafta and Kroviniu terminalas) amounted to 6.09 million tonnes (+4.5%). Transshipment of oil via Butinge terminal owned by Mazeikiu nafta totaled 3.76 million tonnes against 5.09 million tonnes in the same period of the previous year (-26.1%). The volume of passenger transportation by ferries grew by 21.3% to 257 thou people.
