Cosco starts calling at SICT on Shantou-SE Asia service
Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) Group subsidiary Shantou International Container Terminals (SICT) has announced that a new southeast Asia Cosco service has started calling at its terminal in the mainland China Port of Shantou in Guangdong province. The first of the three vessels that Cosco Container Lines deploys on the service to call at the port was the Yang Jian He, which arrived at the terminal earlier this month. The other two containerships used on the service are the Sheng He and the Hu Tuo He.
The port rotation for the new weekly service that makes stops at SICT every Thursday is: Shantou, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh, Singapore, Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong and Shantou. "The trade lanes between Shantou and southeast Asia are further strengthened by this new service at SICT. It provides shippers with time and cost savings by removing the need for further transshipment at other ports," said David Wu, general manager of SICT. "SICT now also provides other Intra-Asia shipping routes to Japan, Korea and Manila."
Shantou International Container Terminals is a joint venture between Hutchison Delta Ports (HDP) and the Shantou Port Authority. SICT was the first dedicated container terminal in Shantou when it started operation in 1997, a HPH statement said.
