Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC to start construction of coal terminal in late 2008

In late 2008, Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC plans to start construction of a coal terminal valued at $70 million, Viktor Morozov, Director General of the company, announced according to RZD-Partner referring to Interfax.

“The terminal is to be put into operation by 2011,” Mr. Morozov says.

The terminal will be capable of handling 7 million tonnes of coal per year, which will increase annual coal transshipment capacity of Murmansk Commercial Seaport to 14 million tonnes. The decision on construction of the terminal was taken by the company’s BOD in late October of 2006. The first phase of construction will be financed by the company itself while the active phase of construction will require a credit line.

Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC is the largest stevedoring company in the port of Murmansk. It specializes in transshipment of coal, apatite and general cargo including containers.
