Yangpu port third phase to kick off construction
The third phase project of the Port of Yangpu in South China's Hainan Province, which has finished US$33.9 million investment and 70 percent of the construction work, will be put into brief production before the 2008 Spring Festival starting on February 7.
The third phase project, which is invested with $54.3 million in total, includes the construction of three 50,000-tonnage berths. The No. 6 and No. 7 berths will be capable of receiving and handling cargo before the holiday. Three gate operators have been installed; the land-paving project and the entities of the three berths have been finished.
The first two phases of the Yangpu Port have two 20,000-tonnage berths, three 35,000-tonnage berths and one 3,000-tonnage berth, with 310,000 sq. m of warehouses and yards, designed throughput of 2.2 million tonnes of cargo and 200,000 TEUs. The port's effective cargo throughput can reach over 4.5 million tonnes. It has the only standard container berths in the province.
