President director of PT Maersk Indonesia Jakob Friis Sorensen said the partnership aimed to support Maersk Indonesia's services in several regions, such as in the Indonesian Eastern Zone and in West Sumatra.
Several national shipment companies and port operators that have established partnerships with the Danish company are, among others, PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk, PT Meratus Line, Djakarta Lloyd, and PT Jakarta International Container Terminal.
He viewed Asean countries, including Indonesia, were a potential market due to the rapid export growth in the region.
In Indonesia, Maersk is considered the second largest shipment company after Evergreen. Last year, the company grew by five percent to six percent and projected to grow by nine percent this year.
Despite the increase in growth target, Maersk has yet had any plan to add new container ships since the company still wants to focus on developing market, not on developing capital.
He said in the near time, Maersk will have eight new ships from China and South Korea.
