The value of the investment is around US$176 million and it is carried out as a joint venture with Russian N-Trans.
Container Finance had a dispute in the port of Kronstadt that has now eased. The company has sold 50 percent of its Moby Dick terminal to N-Trans, formerly Severstaltrans. According to Container Finance managing director Harri Nordström, the company will continue its projects in Kronstadt and believes an understanding will be reached with the Russian party.
Container Finance and N-Trans have set up a joint venture, Container Depot, for the Yanino terminal. It will take about two years to set up the terminal. Container Depot is also building rail tracks to connect the terminal with the Russian main railway.
Container Finance is also expanding its port operations to Belgium. Those operations will also be linked to Russian container traffic.
Nordström believes that the transit traffic of cars to Russia via Finland will eventually start using specially developed containers. This will open up a huge market.
