Brazil's Petrobras to rent more port terminals for oil exploration

Petrobras will rent more terminals in the Rio de Janeiro port to meet the demand of the increasing commercial exploration activities of the country's pre-salt layer oil reserves. The Brazilian state-owned energy giant has already been operating in a small area of the port, including 12 platforms in the Santos Basin, the local O Globo newspaper reported on Monday.
As the number of platforms in the basin is expected to rise with increasing exploration activities, the company needs a larger area in the port to meet the current needs, it said.
Petrobras is also using ports in the Macae and Angra dos Reis cities of the Rio de Janeiro state. Both ports have reached their full capacity.
The Rio port, which will mark its 100 years of operation Tuesday, is to undergo a huge expansion in the next few years to raise its capacity by 15 to 20 percent per year.
