Island Offshore takes delivery of another LNG PSV
Norway's Island Offshore has taken delivery of another liquefied natural gas (LNG) platform supply vessel (PSV) from shipbuilder STX in Brevik, the company has said, Ship & Bunker reports.
Island Contender is the sistership to Island Crusader that was delivered in May.
The company said that at current prices for gas and gasoil, there is a "considerable saving" when using gas, as well as the use of gas being better from an environmental perspective.
Island Contender is a Rolls-Royce design UT 776 CDG that the company said was equipped for operating on gas alone, with two gas engines able to be used alone or together in all operational situations, as well as two diesel engines if more power is required.
Neil Gilliver, President of Rolls-Royce's Merchant sector last month said that LNG as a vessel fuel is "indisputably the best long-term solution for ship owners."
Rolls-Royce recently won the "Ship of the Year" award at the SMM marine industry trade show in Hamburg.
