Vostochny Port cargo traffic rises 9.3 percent
Cargo throughput at Vostochny Port (without Kozmino numbers) in January-September 2012 increased by 9.3% compared to the same period in 2011, to 19.56 million tons, the stevedoring company said.
Coal and coke exports (including batch and anthracite) through the port’s terminal rose 10% to 16.16 million tons, oil product shipments grew by 12% to 448,300 tons.
Container traffic in the reporting period was up 18.3% to 296,350 TEUs.
Port Vostochny (East Port) is the year-round navigable and the deepest port of the Russian Far East region. Vostochny Port is located on the coast Japan Sea, 20 km from the terminus of Trans-Siberian Railroad - the city of Nakhodka. Vostochny port is able to accommodate 280-meter long, 40-meter wide vessels with draft up to 15.5 m. The port’s stevedore companies operate16 cargo berths, a few auxiliary berths at the terminals for handling coal, containers, fertilizer, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo. In 2011, cargo throughput at Port Vostochny (excluding Kozmino’s figures) rose to 23.15 million tons from 20.34 million tons a year earlier.
