Evergreen delays newbuilding plan
Evergreen will delay its plan of building 60 more medium-small size boxships until the expansion of Panama Canal is completed by 2015, Evergreen’s vice president Bronson Hsieh told Taiwanese media this week, SinoShipNews reports.
Evergreen proposed a plan in 2010 to build 100 vessels including thirty-two 8000teu boxships, twenty 7024teu boxships, twenty 5364teu boxships and more than twenty 2000teu feeder ships. Currently Evergreen has ordered thirty 8000teu boxships.
Hsieh predicted there will be a 10% growth on newbuilding boxships next year and he suggested shipowners should put more efforts on controlling capacities.
