JSC Vostochny Port posts a 5.8% growth in cargo volumes
Cargo handling by stevedore company JSC Vostochny Port in January-September 2012 increased by 5.8% compared to the same period in 2011, to 13,394,800 tons, the company press releases said.
In September, the stevedore company’s terminals transshipped 1,316,200 tons, a 4.2% decline from a year earlier.
JSC Vostochny Port is the major stevedore company in the Russian Far East operating at the port of Vostochny, the largest Russian deep-sea port in the Far East. In 2011, cargo volumes handled by JSC Vostochny Port rose 12% year-over-year to 16.5 million tons.
Export coal mined in Kuzbass constitutes the bulk of loads handled by the company, nearly 98% of total cargo throughput at Vostochny Port. Coal shipped by coasting vessels makes up 1.8% and approximately 0.2% - other goods.
The stevedoring company’s assets include two transshipment facilities and a fleet of harbor tugs, able to berth 150,000dwt vessels. The first facility is Specialized Coal Terminal (PPK-3) with conveyor equipment for handling export coal. In January-September the terminal exported 10,691,700 tons of coal (+3.3%). In September – 1,035,500 tons (-5.9%).
The second facility is Universal Transshipment Terminal (PPK-1) for handling general and bulk cargoes (coal, coke, clinker, iron ore, timber, etc.) as well as metals, pulp, aluminum, chemical, heavy-lift and oversized cargo. In nine recent month the terminal handled 2,703,100 tons, (+16.6%). In September, cargo throughput at the PPK-1 totaled 280,700 tons (+2.5%).
