Port of Taganrog throughput rises 9 percent to 1.2 mln tons
Cargo handling by JSC Taganrog Sea Commercial Port in January-September 2102 rose 9% year-on-year, to 1.2 million tons, the company’s press release said.
Shipments of outbound cargo through the stevedore’s terminals grew 22% to 819,000 tons, inbound goods volume totaled 217,000 tons, a 33% gain.
Short sea traffic volume plummeted by 78%, to 129,000 tons. Handling of general cargo increased by 26% to 256,000 tons. Metal exports soared fivefold compared to the nine-month period a year ago, to 96,000 tons, shipments of building materials rose 18% to 65 million tons.
Handling of dry bulk cargo exceeded last year's figure by 13% and increased to 722,000 tons, including 513,000 tons of coal (+13%) and 60,000 tons of ore (+6%).
The nine-month volume of liquid bulk fell 21%, to 187,000 tons. The decline was attributed to the heavy ice condition in the Azov basin (in February and March), the report says.
Container traffic at Taganrog port totaled 13,500 twenty foot equivalent units (TEU). In the reporting period, Taganrog Sea Commercial Port handled 12,966 railcars and 358 ships.
JSC Taganrog Sea Commercial Port is the major stevedoring company of the port of Taganrog. The company operates at Berths No 1-5, 7-8. The TSCP is owned by UCL Port, a stevedoring division of UCL Holding. In 2011, the company handled about 1.4 million tons of different cargoes.
