Russian seaports to handle 470 mln t of cargo in 2009 – Aleksei Klyavin
Russian seaports are likely to handle 470 million tonnes of cargo in 2009, Aleksei Klyavin, Director of the Department of State Policy in the field of Maritime and River Transport, said at the meeting of Russia Shipowners’ Union, press center of the Transport Ministry reports.
Mr. Klyavin settled upon the results of Russia’s maritime and river transport in 2008 which carried 186 million tonnes of cargo (+2.5%, year-on-year). The volume of handling operations grew by 2.9%, year-on-year, to 700 million tonnes. In 2008, Russian seaports handled 454.6 million tonnes of cargo (+1.1%, year-on-year). In the forth quarter a considerable fall was registered in transshipment of metal, fertilizers, containerized cargo. In general, Mr. Klyavin characterized the situation with dry bulk and liquid bulk cargo as non-critical one and the branch results as positive.
