Gothenburg Port Q3 container throughput up 4%
The Swedish Port of Gothenburg saw a four percent increase in container traffic in the third quarter of 2012, while there was a decline of four percent decline in roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) traffic, reported SeeNews Shipping.
In July-September 2012, 226,000 TEUs were transported via the port, while ro-ro traffic declined to 127,000 units.
The good development in container shipping during the third quarter was somewhat unexpected in view of the current challenging economic situation, Magnus Karestedt, CEO of Goteborgs Hamn, commented.
Railway traffic saw an increase of 10 percent year-on-year to 100,000 TEUd. Oil, diesel, ethanol, asphalt and other energy products registered a new quarterly record, with growth of 30 percent to 6.1 million tonnes.
On the other hand, the number of cars transported dropped by 34 percent on the year to 30,000.
