Port of Taicang container volume surges 42pc in 2008
Eastern China's port of Taicang lifted 1.45 million TEU in 2008, up 42 per cent on the preceding year within a total throughput of 40 million tonnes, reports Xinhua.
Last year, the port introduced a series of measures to cope with the negative influence of the US economic crisis and to secure the growth of its container throughput, including attracting more cargo from its neighbouring regions, strengthening its cooperation with major shipping companies, expanding internal trade services and enhancing its lines to Taiwan.
