JNPT received 'Letter of Acceptance' from DP World for 330 metres Container Berth Project

Jawaharlal Nehru Port had awarded on 31st October 2012 the development of container handling facility with a quay length of 330-metres on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis for a concession period of 17 years with an estimated cost of Rs.600 crores (as in 2007) and capacity of 0.8 million TEUs, to M/s Dubai Port World Pvt. Ltd. at a gross revenue share of 28.09%, Daily Shipping Times reports.

A function was held at Mumbai City Office of JNPT, in which the Letter of Acceptance by M/s. DP World was handed over to Shri L. Radhakrishnan, IAS,  Chairman, JNPT , by the Chairman, DP World, H.E. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem. The CEO, DP World Mr. Mohammed Sharaf, the Deputy Chairman of JNPT Shri N.N.Kumar, Capt. Anil Singh, Sr. Vice President and Managing Director, DP World Subcontinent and other Senior Officials of DP World and JNPT were present.

The Concession Agreement is to be signed within 30 days from the date of Letter of Award.  The maximum construction period for the project as per the tender conditions, is 24 months from the date of award of concession.

In the meeting, Shri L. Radhakrishnan, JNPT Chairman has expressed the hope that the project will be completed within one year and assured that all possible help will be extended by JNPT to the partner while receiving the Letter of Acceptance from H.E.Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World.

The scope of the project includes an extension of the existing container berth by 330 metres towards the north, the extension of the existing guide bund by about 160 m, the development of a container stack yard and other related ancillary facilities, the construction of approach bridges, a finger jetty of 50 m length and 25 m width, capital dredging in front of the berth pocket, installation of the required cargo handling equipments, both at the quay and the stack yard, etc. The berths are to be designed for a minimum depth of 16.5 m.

The facilities are to be of the latest design meeting stringent safety regulations and conforming to international standards of performance.
