Russian shipbuilders to rise 20% in 2009 to 180 bln rubles - Khristenko
Russian shipbuilders will see sales rise 20% to 180 billion rubles in 2009, Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Khristenko said in the Federation Council on Wednesday according to Interfax.
Defense currently dominates, he said, accounting for 70% of sales.
The share of production and services to civilian shipbuilding is oriented toward the domestic market and grew almost 70% in 2008.
Including exports it accounts for about one-third of total sales, Khristenko said.
Approximately 120 vessels of various classes and tonnages are now under construction at Russian shipyards. Domestic shipbuilders delivered 36 vessels in 2008 and about the same number will be delivered this year, Khristenko said.
