UK union slams down on Russian operator
The UK maritime union Nautilus and the International Transport Workers’ Federation, ITF, are condemning the Russian ship operator who has abandoned its crew in Liverpool, leaving wages unpaid for more than four months. The operator owes the crew EUR 85,000 in unpaid wages – and the amount increases daily. The cargo vessel Stalingrad, 4,643 GT, has been in Liverpool since 19 December 2008 and is presently arrested by creditors who are owed significant sums of money.
The Admiralty Marshall provides food, water and fuel for heating and cooking for the suffering crew.
”We are working with all concerned to have the crew repatriated as soon as possible. The Russian Embassy refuses to help and suggests the crew pay for their own air fares when they receive their wages.”, Nautilus UK/ITF inspector Tommy Molloy, says in a comment.
